Study Guide for Cardiovascular System Test

 The Respiration System

Our lungs are the obvious organs involved with respiration.  However, the respiratory tract is much more complex than just the lungs.

Be able to trace the path of the system and explain the role played by the nose, trachea, brochi, bronchioles, and alveoli.

How do we inhale? exhale?  Remember to account for the role of the diaphram and lungs.

Where in the lungs does gas exchange occur?

Our lungs serve to bring together fresh air and our blood.  Describe the cells in our blood that allow it to carry so much oxygen.

We conducted a lab on lung capacity (vital vs tidal volume of our lungs).  What is the difference between vital and tidal lung volume?

Circulatory and Excretory Systems

Study your diagrams of the heart.  Know the major components covered in class: Both atria, ventricles, inferior vena cava, superior vena cava, aorta, pulmonary veins, pulmonary arteries, and bicuspid/tricuspid valves.  Be able to diagram the correct location of all these components and diagram the flow of blood in the heart.

What is blood pressure?  Describe what 120/80 means in terms of the heart’s functions.  How does your body alter its blood pressure?

What are the three major solid components of blood?  What is the function of each?

What is the lymph system?

Describe the role of arteries, capillaries and veins. How is the composition of each unique?
