Chapter 22 Bacteria and Viruses:
Be able to diagram a bacterium and label the following parts: pili, DNA, plasmid, cell wall, cell membrane.
Define: chemoautotroph, photoautotroph, heterotroph, endospore, pathogen
What is the difference between eubacteria and archeabacteria?
What is the difference between prokaryotic fission and conjugation?
What are the four stages of a viral infection? What is the difference between a lytic and lysogenic virus?
On the antomy of a virus, be able to label the capsid, genetic material and tail.
What is a retrovirus?
Chapter 23
Fungi-like protists: what is the mycelium, hypae and chitin.
Animal-like protists: What is the difference between amoebas, ciliates, and flagellates? Define: cilium, flagellum, contractile vacuole, endocytosis, protozoans.
Plant-like protists: Why are kelp not considered plants? What is unique about euglenoids?
Chapter 24: Fungi
How do fungi feed? Reproduce?
Define: chitin, saprobe, mycelium, hypae, spore.
Be sure to know the details of lichens and mycorrhizae!
