Genetic Engineering EC

You are to research a genetically modified organism (food crop, bacteria, virus, mammal) and write a report on the background of the organism.  Address the following:

a) History of the genetics:  When was the genetic engineering done?  Groups or individuals who did the work?  Who owns the patent? What is the natural source of the genes involved?

b) What are the potential benefits and dangers involved with the genetic manipulation?  Should this particular organism be allowed to be used/released?

c)  In general, should GMOs be allowed to be sold in grocery stores and restaurants?  What are some potential risks of GMOs?
